Sony have announced a new, lower price for silver and black PS2 consoles boasting a number of improvements over previous models. From October 1 the price of a standard PlayStation 2 console will fall from £169.99 to just £139.99. Also announced was the pricing for the upcoming limited edition satin silver console which, bundled with two matching controllers, will sell for just £149.99.
Following advances in manufacturing, Sony has also announced that new PlayStation 2 consoles are now not only cheaper to produce, but also boast a number of improvements over previous models. Both the satin silver and black consoles now feature improved DVD playback, a significantly quieter fan, and a built-in infra red receiver.
"With this attractive new price point, with PlayStation 2's unbeatable technology package, compelling on-line experiences, and with a vast portfolio of over 850 software titles including mass market appeal titles such as EyeToy: Groove and Dog's Life, we believe there has never been a better time to enter the PlayStation 2 experience," said Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony UK. "At this new price point of £139.99, the clear market-leading PlayStation 2 should remain the computer entertainment system of choice for an even wider and more diverse audience."
